DAVID MAKES FOOD FAMOUS

Director & Food Visualist David Ma brings a mix of whimsy, cinematic style, and narrative to his filmmaking. David’s unique approach to food is due in large part to his specialized background. He began his culinary career as a food stylist, with an eye for finding the beauty in all foods—from high-end dishes to a grilled cheese. Before entering film, he also worked as an agency creative at Droga5, TBWA & 360i, which taught him the importance of both a great concept and the execution of that idea.

With every project, he seeks to combine surprising narratives with polished, cinematic food imagery. The world of tabletop can be a familiar one, and often overly serious. David aims to create films as fun as they are drool-worthy. His latest viral project, Food Films, was an original series that transformed dull cooking videos into the styles of iconic directors like Wes Anderson, Michael Bay, Quentin Tarantino and Alfonso Cuaron. The project received over 10 million views on Facebook and YouTube, and even Michael Bay himself commented.
David’s work transcends beyond TV and into the digital and social space. He has over 1.3 million followers across TikTok and Instagram where he takes viewers behind the scenes of his commercials, driving millions of views for commercials he’s directed.

Most recently David was named one of AdWeek’s Top 100 Creatives of 2021, featured on Variety’s Inaugural Showbiz List and has been interviewed & had his work featured by Forbes, Vanity Fair, The Guardian, GQ, Buzzfeed and many more.
